•Born in San Juan, Sacatepequez, Guatemala, Carlos Chavez is known locally and internationally for his figurative work in acrylic and watercolor, with a special focus on Mayan women.

• From the beginning his work has been determined by the historical events and the formation process of history of the Guatemalan nation. In most of his work he exalts the Maya Women and their historic relevance, especially in relation to the events of the civil war during which entire communities were pushed into exile, creating a break or change in their cultural identity and their relationship with the land. In his paintings most of the time there is a sort of desolate landscape in which he intend to create mental states such as loneliness, sadness, pain.
