ARTIST  STATEMENT

Influenced by more than 20 years of human rights activism, I create visual records of Latin American political events that have shaped our short history, as well as current events that impact the American hemisphere, the Central American region, and the local level, influencing our contemporary political, social, cultural, and economic life from an anti-imperialist and interventionist perspective. I reflect on and explore themes of corruption, electoral issues, migration, justice, identity, empowerment, equity, and forms of governance contrary to the common good. I also explore other discoveries related to the consciousness of existence and more emotional and intimate interests, immersing myself in the lives of dogs, the mystical apparatus of divination, magic, love, eroticism, and attachments. All of this is done through found objects such as soda cans crushed by cars, pieces of metal, wood with traces of cement, rusty construction wire, stones, and other more common objects such as matchboxes, traditional fabrics, and clothing, with which I create collages sewn with threads on cotton canvas, paper, packing boxes, or pizza boxes.
